On 26 Sep 2024, a group of students from Madras University embarked on a visit to the Philatelic Bureau in Chennai as a precursor to World Postcard Day, to be celebrated on October 1st. The Philatelic Bureau, a hub for stamp and postcard enthusiasts, offered the students a unique opportunity to delve into the rich history of postal communication.
Upon arrival, the students were warmly welcomed by the staff of the Philatelic Bureau. They were guided through the bureau's collection, which showcased a diverse array of stamps, postcards, and related memorabilia. The students were particularly intrigued by the historical stamps that depicted significant events in India's history.
The highlight of the visit was a discussion on the significance of World Postcard Day. The students learned about the global movement to promote the use of postcards as a means of communication and cultural exchange. They were inspired to share their love of postcards with their friends and family, and to participate in the worldwide celebration.
