Philatelic Bureau Visit: A Pre-Meetup for World Postcard Day

On 26 Sep 2024, a group of students from Madras University embarked on a visit to the Philatelic Bureau in Chennai as a precursor to World Postcard Day, to be celebrated on October 1st. The Philatelic Bureau, a hub for stamp and postcard enthusiasts, offered the students a unique opportunity to delve into the rich history of postal communication.

Upon arrival, the students were warmly welcomed by the staff of the Philatelic Bureau. They were guided through the bureau's collection, which showcased a diverse array of stamps, postcards, and related memorabilia. The students were particularly intrigued by the historical stamps that depicted significant events in India's history.

The highlight of the visit was a discussion on the significance of World Postcard Day. The students learned about the global movement to promote the use of postcards as a means of communication and cultural exchange. They were inspired to share their love of postcards with their friends and family, and to participate in the worldwide celebration.

The visit to the Philatelic Bureau was a resounding success. The students gained valuable insights into the history and culture of postal communication. They also had the opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals and develop a deeper appreciation for the art of postcard collecting. As they prepared for World Postcard Day, the students were eager to share their newfound knowledge and enthusiasm with the wider community. They also registered in Postcrossing and send their first postcard.

சென்னையை மையப்படுத்திய அஞ்சலட்டைகள்

 

அஞ்சல் அட்டைகளின் ஊடாகச் சென்னையைப் எப்படிப் பார்க்கலாம்? சென்னை தினத்தினையொட்டி Madras through the Picture Postcards என்ற தலைப்பிலான கண்காட்சியை சென்னைப் பல்கலைக்கழகத்தின் இதழியல், தொடர்பியல் துறையில்   ஏற்பாடு செய்திருந்தோம். இதில் 200க்கும் அதிகமான சென்னைத் தொடர்பான அஞ்சலட்டைகள் காட்சிப்படுத்தப்பட்டன.

தென்னிந்திய அஞ்சல் தலை சேகரிப்போர் சங்கத்தின் தலைவர் திரு.ரோலண்ட்ஸ் நெல்சன் இதனைத் தொடங்கிவைத்து சிறப்புரையாற்றினார். அவரிடம் உள்ள பழமையான அஞ்சலட்டைகளைக் காண்பித்து உரையாற்றியது அனைவரையும் கவர்ந்தது. குறிப்பாக 1906ல் வெளிவந்த அஞ்சலட்டை உட்படப் பல பழமையான அஞ்சலட்டைகள் பற்றி எடுத்துக்கூறியது வெகு சிறப்பாக இருந்தது.

துறைத் தலைவர் டி.ஆர்.கோபால கிருஷ்ணன் தன்னுடைய பேனா நண்பர்கள் அனுபவங்களையும், நாசாவுடன் தனக்கு இருந்த கடிதத் தொடர்புகளையும் விரிவாகப் பேசியது ஆச்சத்யமாக இருந்தது.

கண்காட்சியில் விஸ்வ வரூன் வரைந்த சென்னையின் முக்கியக் கட்டடங்களை மையப்படுத்திய 21 அஞ்சலட்டைகளை The Postcards Originalன் ஜெகதீஷ் வெளியிட்டு இருந்தார். அதிகம் கவனம் பெறாத இடங்களுக்கும் இம்முறை அஞ்சலட்டைகள் வெளிவந்துள்ளது இங்கு குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.
